The L.A. kings managed to fight their way back to the top of the N.H.L for the second time in just three years to win the most coveted prize in professional Hockey. The series against the N.Y. Rangers seemed a bit one sided in the beginning with L.A. winning the first three games of the series. The Rangers however did not give up, they took game four, sending a clear message they would not go quietly. Game 5 was played in L.A., and what a game it was. After 94 minutes of back and forth play at a dead locked score of 2-2 the kings finally got a break, it came in the form of a rebound to the stick of Alec Martinez. Without hesitation he swept one past Lundqvist, and into the back of the net for a 3-2 Kings victory. The game was the epitome of a nail biter, with shots off the post by Toffoli and McDonagh. If that wasn't enough Kreiders break away attempt and Rick Nash's seemingly open net chance, that was denied by the stick of a sliding Voynov, Rangers fans across the country were on the verge of a heart attack. After 94 minutes of heart pounding hockey the resilient Kings who looked extremely tired, and rightfully so, somehow still found the strength to hoist that 34.5 pound trophy over their heads.
